About the book

Two children turn an ordinary day in the park into an unexpected exploration of perspective. Armed with a collapsible play tunnel, they begin looking at the world around them in new ways. Objects appear giant or tiny, colorful or monochromatic, familiar or completely transformed. Through a simple game, they discover that what we see often depends on where we stand.

Written by Renata Bueno, architect, artist, and winner of the Jabuti Prize, The Tunnel is part of the Here and There collection, which introduces mathematical concepts through storytelling and visual exploration. Rather than explaining ideas directly, the book invites readers to experiment with notions such as perspective, scale, spatial awareness, and point of view through observation and play.

Veridiana Scarpelli’s illustrations are central to the reading experience. Text and image work together to create a visual game that constantly challenges readers’ perception. The book’s design reinforces its themes through unexpected viewpoints, playful compositions, and even changes in reading orientation, encouraging children to physically interact with the book while exploring the story.
