About the book

In the Invisible Threads is a short story inspired by the poetry of Manoel de Barros (1916-2014), one of the most important Brazilian poets of recent decades. In the dialogue presented in this book, mother and daughter share their perspectives on these small, beautiful things: the poet Manoel de Barros’s appreciation for small things, his ability to create a sense of wonder about everyday life, and the bonds of affection that they enjoy. The illustrations are by Grupo Matizes Dumont, a family of artisans from the interior of Brazil who use spontaneous hand-made embroidery as an artistic language and an instrument of social and cultural transformation. Their handmade works of art illustrate Alessandra Roscoe’s poetic prose and reveal, in a profusion of colors and textures, the beauty present in the details and in the little things that make life enchanting.
