About the book

Written in poetic prose, this book weaves together three stories that take place in Rio de Janeiro. The first one portrays the everyday life of a young couple, José and Maria, who work as garbage collectors near a landfill. In the second story, a boy tries to sell rain ponchos in Copacabana beach on New Year’s Eve, while he watches the fireworks. The third story is about Leo, a retired dockworker who is anxiously waiting to go to his daughter’s house to visit his grandson.
