The collection is retold by Tatiana Belinky, one of the most influential figures in Brazilian children’s literature. Born in Russia and later established in Brazil, Belinky was a writer, translator, playwright, and pioneer of children’s television. She adapted the first television version of The Yellow Woodpecker Ranch (Sítio do Picapau Amarelo) and left a lasting legacy through her original works, translations, adaptations, and retellings. Her lively, accessible, and humorous style gives new life to these traditional narratives while preserving their cultural richness.

Illustrated by a variety of artists, the book reflects the diversity of the stories themselves, creating a visual journey across different cultures and traditions. Friendship, courage, wisdom, generosity, cleverness, and respect for differences emerge throughout the collection, demonstrating how stories from distant places often share the same human concerns and aspirations. By bringing together tales passed down across generations, Tales from Around the World offers readers an engaging introduction to world cultures through the enduring magic of oral tradition
