About the book

Eleven-year-old Tereza moves with her mother to her grandmother’s house and enrolls in a private school. On her very first day, she realizes she is the only black student in her class, an experience that triggers reflections on racism, exclusion, and belonging. Through silent observations, internal dialogues, and everyday episodes, the protagonist shares the complexity of her experience amidst social tensions, veiled prejudices, and discoveries of friendship and identity. Tereza will seek ways to confront the daily violence she suffers and, in doing so, understand the importance of identifying racism.
